Regulations and Formalities
Should the intention to build a playground in public places be reported?
Yes, the intention to build a playground must be reported to the appropriate authority. In Poland, this is usually the Starosta (district governor).
The report should specify the scope, type, start date, and method of work. The following should be attached to the report:
- Certificate of the right to manage the property
- Sketches, drawings, or permits
- A site development plan prepared by an authorized designer
The report must be delivered before the start of construction work.
Is a building permit required?
A playground is classified as a so-called object of small architecture, therefore, according to Polish law, a building permit is not required – a simple report of construction intention is enough.
Where can a playground be located?
Minimum distances of the playground from surrounding elements:

Controls and Inspections
Is periodic technical control of recreational facilities required?
Yes, periodic technical control of recreational facilities is required to identify any defects. Each type of equipment is subject to the relevant standard:
- PN-EN 1176 – playgrounds
- PN-EN 16630 – outdoor gyms
How often should playgrounds be inspected?
According to the PN-EN 1176-1 and 7 standards, three types of inspections are recommended:
1. Regular visual inspection (weekly)
Visual inspection intended to identify obvious hazards resulting from wear, vandalism, or weather conditions.
Performed by: administrator/manager of the facility or maintenance staff.
2. Operational inspection (3 times a year)
Checks stability, functionality, and the degree of wear of components. Recommended dates:
- After winter – preparation for the season
- Summer/post-holiday – detecting holiday damage
- Autumn – summary of the season
Performed by: trained person, technical service employee.
3. Main annual inspection
Verifies the general level of safety of the entire playground. Includes testing foundations, surfaces, underground parts, and the influence of moisture.
Performed by: qualified inspector with permits, service company, or an external body.
How often should sand in sandboxes be replaced?
Sand in sandboxes should be replaced at least twice a year, according to the recommendation of sanitary authorities.
This is important because sandboxes are often contaminated with animal excrement, which can lead to diseases. We recommend purchasing a sandbox cover.
Assembly and Preparation
How should the area be prepared for device assembly?
The area designated for the assembly of devices should be appropriately prepared by the Ordering Party before the arrival of the assembly team:
- deprived of any surface and underground infrastructure
- relatively flat
- without medium and high vegetation
What if I wanted to perform the safety surface on my own?
In the case of performing a safety surface by the ordering party, the terrain should be prepared (execution of the pit, without filling it with the target surface). The rest of the work will be continued after SIMBA installs the devices.
Until what time are devices installed?
Our assembly groups work until late evening hours. After confirming the delivery date, please allow access to the assembly area and the possibility of indicating the location of the devices until 10:00 PM.
Is there a possibility of expanding the playground with additional elements?
Of course! We approach each order individually and try to best meet our customers' expectations. You can expand the playground with any play equipment: swings, slides, rockers, carousels, etc.
Safety surfaces
When is a safety surface recommended?
A safety surface is recommended for devices on which children play at a height above 600 mm, as well as under:
- slides
- swings
- carousels
- rocking devices
Of key importance is the free fall height – the maximum height from which a child can fall. It is this value that determines the necessity of using an amortizing surface.
If the free fall height does not exceed 600 mm, it is possible to use a standard substrate (e.g., grass or soil). Using an appropriate surface in accordance with the PN-EN 1177 standard minimizes the risk of injury.
